The Process
Your vehicle stays where it is for all four. Here is what each one involves, who does it, and what you are asked for at each point.
A registration service
Everything the DVLA needs is paperwork. That is the whole reason this can be done without the vehicle ever coming to us.
-
Your vehicle stays put
The registration itself is done on paperwork — no IVA test and no DVLA inspection, so nothing about it means driving or trailering the vehicle across the country. If yours needs an MOT, that is the one thing it has to attend, and we tell you whether it does.
-
£399 fixed admin fees
One figure for every vehicle — no hourly rates, nothing billed by the document, and nothing that moves once we have confirmed your import. That is our charge for the work; DVLA and HMRC charges are separate, and we set those out too.
-
Any age, anywhere in the EU
Car, van or motorcycle, from any of the 27 countries the form lists. Age changes the paperwork — a vehicle 10 years or older needs no Certificate of Conformity, a newer one does — but it changes neither our fee nor whether we can do it.
Four steps, start to registered
You are involved twice: at the start, and again when we come back to you with what we need.
- You
Tell us about your vehicle
The form asks what the vehicle is, the country it is currently registered in, and how to reach you. Nothing to upload, no reference numbers, no documents to find first. If something about your import does not fit the questions, ring us instead and tell us in your own words.
- Us
We quote you
The form works out your quote as you fill it in, so there is no waiting to find out what this costs, and nothing to pay unless you decide to go ahead. When you are ready, you pay securely online, right there on the quote. Card details go to our payment provider, Stripe, never to this website. A member of the team then checks everything over, confirms your vehicle can be registered, and lets you know exactly what the DVLA and HMRC will charge on top of our £399. If it turns out your vehicle cannot be registered after all, our fee comes back to you in full.
- You
You provide your details
Once you have gone ahead, we send you a list of what we need and why each item is on it. Most of it is paperwork that already came with the vehicle. We check every document ourselves before it is submitted, and where something is missing or will not do, we tell you what to get instead rather than sending the application in and hoping. Your vehicle still has not moved.
- Us
Your car is registered
We prepare the application, assemble and check the supporting documents, and submit it. From there the correspondence with the DVLA is ours to handle — queries, follow-ups, anything they come back on. We keep you posted until the registration is issued, and your vehicle has not moved from wherever it was when you first wrote to us.
Right now, nothing
The form asks what the vehicle is, where it is coming from and how to reach you. No documents, no reference numbers, nothing to find first.
-
To enquire: nothing at all
Three short steps about the vehicle, the country it is registered in and how to reach you. Nothing to upload, nothing to dig out of a drawer, nothing to chase anyone for.
-
Then a list written for your vehicle
What is needed depends on the vehicle and the country it is currently registered in, so we will not hand you a generic checklist that turns out to be wrong for your import. Once we have confirmed yours is eligible, we set out exactly what we need from you — and what we handle ourselves.
-
And you read it before you pay
If something on that list is a problem — an original still with the shipping agent, a document that has not arrived from overseas — that is the point to tell us. It has cost you nothing to find out where you stand.
This service is for you if…
Two things gate the form, and neither of them is age.
- Your vehicle is registered outside the UK right now. If it was sold new here, exported and is now coming back, that still counts — we handle former UK vehicles, and the form asks about yours.
- It is registered in the EU — one of the 27 member states on our coverage page. Outside the EU is something My Car Import handles, just not through this form.
Age does not decide whether we can help, or what our fee is. Our charge is £399 whatever the vehicle, plus DVLA and HMRC charges. What age decides is the paperwork: a vehicle 2016 or earlier is 10 years old, exempt from IVA and type approval, and registers on paperwork alone. A newer one also needs a Certificate of Conformity, which we obtain and bill on to you at what it costs.
Outside the EU, or already UK-registered? My Car Import can quote for the full import instead, or call 01332 810442.
